Compare with a limit

Every letter, number, space, symbol or emoji counts as one character. Words are separated by spaces or line breaks.

Your text is analyzed in your browser. It is not sent or stored anywhere.

Is what I type saved?

No: everything happens on your device and you don't need to sign up.

Your text never leaves your browser

The count is done by this page's code. We don't send or store anything; you can check this in the Network tab of your browser's developer tools.

Clear, consistent counting

We count letters, numbers, spaces, symbols and emojis as one character each, and words by splitting on spaces, just like a word processor.

No limits, no sign-up

You can paste long texts and use it as often as you like, for free and without creating an account.

How to write titles and descriptions that work

Title: between 50 and 60 characters

Google doesn't set a character limit but a width limit in pixels, and it usually cuts titles off at around 600 pixels. With 50 to 60 characters, your title will normally show in full.

Description: up to about 155 characters

On desktop it usually shows up to about 155 to 160 characters, and fewer on mobile. Put the important part first.

One per page, written for people

Every page needs its own title and description. Think about what the visitor is looking for and why they should pick you, not about stuffing in keywords.

Test how much fits in each place

A text that fits in an X post won't necessarily fit in a Google Ads headline (30 characters). Choose the limit and check how much you have left.

Review the whole website, not just one page

Repeated or cut-off titles are among the most common mistakes. An SEO audit spots them across the whole site at a glance.

Frequently asked questions

How many characters should an SEO title have?

Google doesn't impose a number of characters, but a maximum width of about 600 pixels. In practice, 50 to 60 characters usually displays in full, although it depends on the letters you use.

And a meta description?

Up to about 155 to 160 characters on desktop and a bit less on mobile. Google may show a different snippet from the page if it thinks it answers the search better.

Are spaces counted?

We show both figures: characters with spaces and without spaces. Social media and Google Ads limits are measured with spaces.

How many words should a text have to rank?

There is no official minimum. Google has said it doesn't require a word count: the right length is whatever answers well what people are looking for.

How do you calculate reading time?

We divide the number of words by about 230 per minute for silent reading, and by about 130 per minute for reading aloud. It is an estimate.

Is my text saved?

No. The text is analyzed in your browser and isn't sent to any server. If you close or reload the page, it disappears.
