Everything is processed in your browser. What you type is not sent to any server or stored.
How it works and what it does with your text
It's a small, straightforward utility: you paste, choose options and copy the result.
It runs in your browser
The text is transformed by this page's code, on your device. No sign-up or installation needed.
We don't store what you type
We don't send your text to any server or store it. You can check this in the Network tab of your browser's developer tools.
Free and unlimited
Use it as often as you like. It works the same on mobile and on desktop.
Tips to get the most out of it
The password is everything
Security depends almost entirely on the password. Use a long, unique phrase (the password generator can help) and don't reuse it.
How the text is protected
The password is turned into a 256-bit key with PBKDF2-SHA-256 (210,000 iterations and a random salt) and the text is encrypted with AES-GCM, which also detects if someone has modified it.
Every encryption is different
Even if you encrypt the same text twice with the same password, the result changes because the salt and the initialization vector are random. That is how it should be.
Keep the whole result
The encrypted text contains the salt, the vector and the data in a single Base64 block. Copy all of it, without adding or removing characters, so that you can decrypt it.
Frequently asked questions
How do I encrypt a text with a password?
Type the text, choose “Encrypt the text”, enter a password and copy the result. To read it, choose “Decrypt an encrypted text”, paste the encrypted text and enter the same password.
Is it secure?
AES-256-GCM is a very solid standard and the encryption happens in your browser, without sending anything. Real security depends on the length and originality of the password.
Can I decrypt it with another application?
With your own code, yes, because it uses standard algorithms (PBKDF2, AES-GCM), but it is not a format compatible with other tools such as OpenSSL. It is designed to be used with this tool.
I forgot the password, can I recover the text?
No. We don't store anything and there is no backdoor: without the right password it cannot be recovered.
