Tips to get the most out of it

Data exported from a website or a CRM

If you have a CSV with lots of columns and only need the emails or the URLs, paste the content and pull out that column without opening Excel.

Fields with commas inside

With “Respect quoted fields” an address like "12 High Street, Flat 5" counts as a single field, just as a spreadsheet treats it.

Last column

Use the number -1 for the last column when the rows have a variable number of fields.

Open it in your spreadsheet afterwards

Copy the result and paste it into a column of your spreadsheet, or chain it with the sort and remove duplicates tools.

Frequently asked questions

How do I extract a column from a CSV?

Paste the CSV, choose the delimiter (comma, semicolon...) and type the column number. The result has one line per row.

Which delimiter should I use for a CSV saved from Excel?

CSV files saved from Excel with Spanish or other European regional settings usually use a semicolon as the separator, not a comma. If the result looks wrong, try the other one.

Does it work with text copied straight from a spreadsheet?

Yes. When you copy cells from Excel or Google Sheets the separator is a tab: choose “Tab”.

What if a row has fewer columns?

That row doesn't have the field. By default it gives an empty line; tick “Skip” to leave it out. The summary tells you how many rows were missing it.
