Tips to get the most out of it

Spreadsheet columns

Copy a column from your sheet into each list and get a single column with the values joined. With \t as the separator the result pastes back into columns.

First name + last name

If you have the first names in one list and the last names in another, merge them with a space as the separator to get the full name.

Lists of different lengths

By default it continues to the end of the longest one and leaves blanks where something is missing. With “Repeat” the short list is reused, which is handy for always adding the same suffix.

To combine everything with everything

This tool merges row by row. If you want every possible combination between lists, use the list combination generator.

Frequently asked questions

How do I merge two lists line by line?

Paste the first list into “List 1” and the second into “List 2”, choose a separator and copy the result. Each row of the result joins the matching row of the two lists.

Can I merge more than two lists?

Yes. Click “Add another list” until you have 6 lists.

What happens if one list has fewer lines?

It depends on the option you chose: gaps are filled with blanks, the result is cut off at the shortest list, or the short list is repeated from the start.

How is it different from combining lists?

Merging line by line keeps the number of rows (1 with 1, 2 with 2). Combining lists generates every possible pairing between their items.
