On September 21, 2026, the Spanish government presented Plan IA360, a twelve-month roadmap to boost artificial intelligence adoption across Spain's business fabric. Within that plan, the so-called AI voucher stands out: a €600 million fund specifically designed to help SMEs and freelancers incorporate AI solutions into their processes.
What the plan is aiming for
The stated goal is to transform 25,000 companies and raise the share of Spanish companies using AI from the current 21.1% (among companies with 10 or more employees) to over 50% by 2030. The starting point explains why this plan exists: only 12% of Spanish SMEs currently use artificial intelligence, well below larger companies.
What the AI voucher actually funds
Plan IA360 is explicit on one important point: it doesn't fund simple subscriptions to AI tool licences. What it covers are solutions and services provided by European technology companies that bring development, integration, sector-specific expertise, data processing or the redesign of productive processes with real added value, not a generic tool left unadapted to the business.
When it will be available: the timeline matters
This is the point that causes the most confusion, and the most important one to clarify: as of today there is no open call, no final regulation, and no defined amounts per company. The planned timeline includes a controlled pilot during the first half of 2027, with the general call not arriving until before the end of 2027. If anyone offers to already "process your IA360 voucher" for you, be wary: there's nothing to file yet.
How it differs from Kit Digital IA
It's easy to confuse the two since they share a goal, but they're not the same thing. Kit Digital IA is already operational today: specific categories within the existing Kit Digital programme, with grants of up to €12,000-29,000 depending on company size, that can already be requested. Plan IA360 is a new, broader programme still in the design phase, which doesn't replace Kit Digital but complements it starting in 2027. If your business wants to start digitalising with AI now, Kit Digital IA remains the available route; the IA360 voucher is something to prepare for down the line, not an immediate alternative.
What you can do in the meantime
- If you haven't requested Kit Digital yet, check which AI categories it covers right now.
- Start identifying which processes in your business (customer service, content, data analysis) would benefit most from AI with real added value, not just a generic licence.
- If you want to try tools at no cost before committing budget, there are free options we've already covered in detail.
- Keep documentation of any digitalisation project you start now: when the general call opens, it will likely favour processes already underway.
From theory to practice
While the definitive timeline for the IA360 voucher gets finalised, it makes sense not to just wait it out. You can review which free AI tools already fit your business, and if you'd rather have a solution with real integration instead of just a standalone licence, our content generation service already combines AI with real human editorial judgement.
