Ecommerce in Spain 2026: growing 7.4% and already past €110 billion

Spain is the fastest-growing ecommerce market among Western Europe's five biggest economies. Here's what the data says and what it means if you're still not selling online.

Online sales in Spain will grow 7.4% in 2026, reaching $58.25 billion, according to several industry analyses. At that pace, Spain becomes the fastest-growing ecommerce economy among the five leading Western European markets this year, and the sector as a whole already exceeds €110 billion.

How Spaniards shop in 2026

One in three online orders in Spain is now placed from a mobile phone, and marketplaces have become the preferred channel: they account for more than 64% of online purchases. In 2025, orders grew 7% year-on-year, sales volume rose 15%, and the average order value climbed from €25 to €30, a sign that not only are more people buying, they're also spending a bit more per order.

The gap that still exists among SMEs

Despite the sector's growth, only 26.6% of Spanish companies made sales through ecommerce in 2024. The gap also shows up in the adoption of technology around online sales: the use of artificial intelligence or Big Data is notably higher among large companies than among SMEs and microbusinesses, some of which don't even reach 5% adoption. In other words: the demand is there, but a large part of Spain's business fabric still isn't taking advantage of it.

What this means if you still only sell in person

  • The growth isn't a one-off bubble: it stays above other major European markets.
  • Mobile is no longer a secondary channel — it's one in three orders.
  • Having a presence on a marketplace, in addition to your own store, is increasingly relevant for visibility.
  • Starting late isn't an irreversible problem, but every quarter of delay is market share left in the hands of those already selling online.

How we approach it at Mitza

Our ecommerce development service starts with a functional store from €600, with catalog, payment gateways, shipping and SEO set up from the start. If your project needs something more complex, such as ERP integrations or a large catalog, we approach it as custom development, and in either case we work on SEO from the structural phase, not as a last-minute add-on.
